I can't believe it's already been a month since Levitate Music Festival! I didn't get a chance to post about it because of all of the chaos in our lives at the time, but I finally have the chance so I will share what a great time we had! Levitate has always been a favorite of mine - the festival has amazing hospitality, delicious food (including my FAVORITE Island Creek Oyster Bar) and easy to navigate grounds. These are basically my top three things that matter to me at a festival besides the frends that I get to run into and spend time with! We arrived in the mid afternoon on Friday and I brought one of my best frends, Becca, with me for the ride. We luckily got to catch some of RIPE (that awesome band I mentioned in my Tumble Down post!) before heading to the Style Stage for Twiddle. The rest of the lineup for the day was PHENOMENAL! We got to see Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Slightly Stoopid, our GREAT FRENDS Stick Figure, and ....wait for it... TREY ANASTASIO BAND! Ryan and I got an opportunity to go into the pit during First Tube, which was basically like a DREAM COME TRUE for me! It was probably one of the top moments of my life!
After Trey we headed to a house party at Scott from Stick Figure's parents house. LORDY LORDY! This was probably the coolest party I have ever been to. They had a huge spread of oysters from Island Creek Oyster Bar (the same vendor that was a festival sponsor) in a canoe boat for all of the guests as well as an "open mic." We had the best time hanging out with the Stick Figure guys and headed back to the hotel to rest before a long Saturday.
I was super excited for Saturday because I have been waiting FOREVER to see Lake Street Dive. Their song "Good Kisser" always makes me so happy when I hear it and I was blessed to meet the band after their set. It's always so cool to meet other musicians and hear their take on what the "tour life" is like for them and what makes them feel at home on the road. I had an awesome chat with their lead vocalist, Rachael Price, and headed over to Turkuaz on the Style Stage for some funk! As you all probably know by now, Turkuaz never disappoints so NEVER miss a Turkuaz set! Perhaps my favorite point of the night that followed was the Mihali and Frends set at the Soul Stage. Mihali brought up a ton of frends including Rob Compa and Eli Winderman from Dopapod to name a few, and their cover of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" was something to be remembered forever.
I hope that any of you that experienced this fest had as much fun as me! I can't wait to get back there - it's crazy how fast the festival season has gone. I don't want to think about it almost being over!!!!
What are you guys most excited for over the rest of this festival season? Has your favorite festival already happened? I'd love to hear about which festivals you love and why... maybe I've never been and will end up there next year!
xoxo. Alexandra
